Hoops Go Big On Tantawy

By Kevin Beck - Monday, June 29, 2020 - 2:44:33 PM

Breaking news this hour is that Celtic have completed the signing of Nurnberg striker, Youssef Tantawy, for £60m.

The Egyptian forward, 31, has been top of Beck's shopping list for some time, and after weeks of conversation, the former Premier League champions finally agreed to let the coveted forward leave the Frankenstadion.

Beck was clearly delighted to capture Tantawy.

"After weeks of badgering Macca to sell, I was surprised this morning when he got back in touch to say the lad might be available. I didn't expect anything to happen as I felt we were too far apart on valuations, but we managed to get it done.

Tantawy has been high on my list for a while because I have been after a proven Premier League striker, who fits in well as a no.2 to the main man upfront. He was an exceptional foil for Namatevs at Strasbourg, and that's what I am looking for from him with Khuboni.

Yes, it's a lot of money for a 31 year old, but that sort of quality and experience is something we lack upfront - and I believe it's invaluable if you want to fight for the top honours.

I'm delighted the Board sanctioned the deal, and I'm delighted to have the wee laddie here. To have Khuboni, Tehrani, Tantawy, and Dzorlev as our first team striking options is a very strong place to be."

The former Strasbourg, Real Oviedo, and Greuther Furth star boasts 573 goals in as many games, and the Celtic faithful expect to see plenty more of those over the coming seasons.
