Northern Ireland New Era Begins Well

By Ellis Glass - Monday, April 13, 2020 - 8:40:42 AM

Northern Ireland new era began with a 3-2 win over Brazil. Ellis Glass who is back for his second stint as Northern Irelands manager oversaw the game with 5 changes to the side that was played out under the control of the manageress side previously.

Speaking on the game - “It was pleasing to get the win, Brazil are a fantastic side so to come up with a win is great but we dominated possession which was great to see. We are putting the work in now ready for next season where we hope we can give teams a good run for the money in the World Cup Qualifiers”

Speaking on the appointment and team

“They have some fantastic players in the side when you have the likes of Sam Shea and Steve Mckerr in the side then you can challenge most teams and we will look to do that, however, the more pressing concern is the U21 pool who we will lose 3 of the squad that was put in to the first team and the variety and quality isn’t there.. That’s something we have to work on but its great for lads like Oscar Smyth and Philip Lizrraga who can put in some experience to the U21’s and continue there development

Speaking on the U21’s where Glass’s reign also began with a 4-2 win over Bulgaria.

“Steve is a great manager but on paper I think they are probably suffering the same issues we are but they gave us a good fight and an even contest where on a different day it could have been a totally different result.

Northern Ireland have yet to take on another fixture on MD56 but have another U21 match lined up with Bulgaria on the same night.
