Celtic Sign AM

By Kevin Beck - Thursday, January 2, 2020 - 7:41:05 PM

As if having Khuboni, Hieck, and Tehrani as striking options wasn’t a frightening prospect, Celtic have added Ibrahim Yaman to their ranks.

It looked as though Yaman, a Turkish international, was heading to Real Sociedad, but at the 11th hour his destination was to the east end of Glasgow. The 27 year old, who impressed in the Premier League with Dundee Utd, moves to Celtic Park for £40m. Here is what manager, Kevin Beck, had to say.

“I’m glad to have Ibrahim here with us. In a bizarre situation with the auction, we seemed to have secured the deal after meeting Sheffield Wednesday’s demands. However, after the personal terms contract with Ibrahim was agreed, Scott [Chancellor] dropped me a message to say Sociedad had beaten us to the purchase via electronic comms.

The initial auction, however, stated that all bids were to be made on the public forum and we were the first to offer the asking price via that platform. In my option, the lad should have been heading to us and I expressed this to Scott. Scott came back to me and agreed, and I’d like to thank him for realising this and honouring the terms of the auction.

Ibrahim comes here as competition for the starting 11 and will be a valuable member of the first team squad. He won’t make the starting line up vs Karlsruher tomorrow as that’s come a bit too early. People may question the fee, and it’s a little more than I wanted to pay, but I was impressed with Ibrahim’s qualities at Dundee Utd in the Premier League and believe he’ll be a success here.”

The Hoops have also agreed deals for 17 year old England U21 defender, Ad Knight, who is set to join from Boca Juniors for £7m, and 18 year old Serbian U21 midfield starlet, Vladan Draškovic, who will also cost £7m from Kashima Antlers. Both players are expected to take part in the U25 tournament.
