Shock appointment at Busan

By Stephen Wilkinson - Friday, November 22, 2019 - 8:58:45 PM

Busan I'Park club hero Steve Wilkinson made an unexpected return to the South Korean outfit on Thursday evening, filling the managerial vacancy left following Anthony Smart's departure last season.

Wilkinson, who oversaw successive promotions from what was then Division D12 to B3 with the team, had been out of the game since leaving Watford back in season 27. Fans will be hoping that the return will signal a change of fortune for the side, as well as new investment into a squad lacking overall depth.

The Englishman brings familiar faces with himself, as ex-Sunderland striker Mbongeni Mankaba and former Elfsborg and Busan defender Trajan Dimov join again as part of the coaching team. Viacheslav Kamoltsev further strengthens the setup with the club expecting to complete negotiations with Roland Nilsson as the last addition. The manager will recognise some old faces in the current squad, with Diego Exposito, Cole Erskine and Tomislav Trifunovic part of the Busan team before his departure.

Wilkinson will take charge of his first match this weekend as his side travel to Inverness Caledonian Thistle for their opening game of the season.
