As a manager in In The Net you can take charge of one of hundreds of famous world football clubs or international sides, and attempt to improve the squad through transfers and training with the aim of finding the best team and tactics to beat all opponents and win competitions.

You have both a first team and a reserve/under-21 side, both of which can play matches, allowing you to give young players experience and see how they perform. Each player is rated between None and Legendary in 10 separate attributes. Once you've decided who to play, it's time to select them.

There are various tactical and strategic decisions you need to make, including selection of the team formation and general offensive and defensive tactics to use against your next opponent. Choose from 12 formations and 5 attacking and defensive strategies.

You also pick a captain, set piece takers and configure substitution conditions. Every decision matters — the right formation against a specific opponent can be the difference between a title and relegation.

The league is in a pyramid format with each division being fed from two below. There are 16 teams per division with up to seven promotions or relegations per division per season. There are also cup competitions — one for all teams and then one for each level — plus the Champions Cup for league and ITN Cup winners.

The international setup has Qualifiers and World Cup for national teams. A whole season lasts more than four months with teams playing up to 3 times a week. There's plenty for a manager to think about.

There are three matchdays a week. Extensive match reviews are available for every match played — a match overview, player statistics, a full timeline of key match events and individual ratings out of 10 for every player. The best performer is voted man of the match.

Club management can be demanding. Your squad of players need taking care of — organising training, renewing contracts, managing morale. Players can be transferred in and out using the transfer list or negotiated directly with other managers in real time.

To make transfers you need money, and looking after the club finances is very important, including long-term decisions on youth investment and stadium development. You can keep track of all goings on via the private messaging system — your assistant manager and scouts will contact you to discuss team matters.

There's a great community atmosphere and a helpful forum where you can meet and receive precious info from experienced managers. New managers will also be assigned a tutor — chosen from selected experienced managers — who will guide them for the first weeks in the game.

The In The Net world never stops. You can keep up to date with major events via the news system, follow all standings and results, and interact with other managers through the message board, newspaper and chat. And it's all completely free to play — no catch, no subscription.
